More Basket Workshops

We need two-weeks notice to dye the reed and prepare the basket kits.  Please register early!

San Francisco Bicycle Baskets

June 18th beginning @ 9:00

These Bicycle Baskets are adorable and come in three sizes and four colors.  Two leather straps with buckles allow you to attach them on the handlebars or, if you aren’t a biker, a bathroom or kitchen towel bar. They are flat on the bottom and the back so they can also rest on a shelf.

This class is designed for beginners but may not be a good first basket class. If you are a first time basket maker then Patty can bring kits for you to choose from and make with the rest of the class.

Instructor: Patty Feather
Time: Friday 9AM to about 3PM

Color choices: green, navy, raspberry and purple.

Cost:    Small: $50 for members, $60 for guest

Medium: $53 for members, $63 for guest Large: $55 for members, $65 for guest

Fee includes all materials for a complete basket.

The Giant Ice Storm Blanket Basket
 August 19th and 20th beginning @ 9:00

This beautiful basket is a giant! Its measurements are 33” x 17” x 11”. Patty Feather is the instructor for this two-day class. Patty designed it during last year’s ice storm and its large size reflects the long days with no power. It has a twill pattern with large iron side handles. It is intended to easily store blankets and quilts but would look stunning on a coffee or dining room table.   This class is designed for those with some basket making experience.

Instructor: Patty Feather

Color choices for the round reed are: green, navy, raspberry, brown, and smoked.

Cost: $75 for members, $85 for guest. Fee includes all materials for a complete basket.

MAY
CHALLENGING SUBJECTS  MONTH   Every artist has a subject matter that frustrates them. For many, it is painting transparent and reflective surfaces. We’ll share some tips that, with a little practice, can help you master these tricky subjects.
May 13 HOW TO PAINT GLASS  Often,  glass is one of the toughest subjects to capture on canvas, we’ll cover some helpful hints for painting both clear and colored glass. (see materials list)
May 20 HOW TO PAINT WATER  Water is a another difficult subject matter. We’ll discuss the basics, from reflections in a pond to the choppy waters of an ocean. (see materials list)
May 27 HOW TO PAINT METAL We’ll end the month focusing on reflective metals.

JUNE
June 10 and June 17 Painting from Photographs We’ll use the “Grid Method” to conquer the most difficult part of painting from photographs—accurately drawing the image on the canvas. Students should bring in their favorite photos from home* as well as the supplies from the materials list.
* This works best for photos that have a clear subject and aren’t too “busy”. Due to time limitations, it would be best to work on a canvas that is 11”x14” or smaller. $20 for members; $25 for non-members

June 24 How to Paint Clouds
$12 for members; $15 for non-members

JULY
July 29  - Color and Composition
Instructor:
Shane Gregory
You don’t have to know how to draw to make great art—it’s all in how you compose your picture! In this class we’ll discuss composition and color, which are two essentials in making a beautiful painting. These tips can be applied to everything from photo-realism to abstract art.

Materials for this class will be provided.
$12 for members; $15 for non-members
