Mayfield's Garden District Project
| The Mayfield Garden District Project was originated by members of the Laurel Oak Garden Club to promote beautification through landscape gardening in the older established neighborhood of Mayfield defined by Backusburg Road and College Street to the north and south, Pryor and Second Street to the east and west.
Residents of the Garden District are invited to join in the project, but participation is by no means mandatory. There are no strict guidelines for the project, and no membership fees are collected. Residents are offered advice on gardening throughout the season and are provided assistance in planting and cultivation whenever manual laborers are available. Operating much like a Club, residents of the Garden District may join in on bulk-rate discounts for plants, planting material and gardening implements. Funds that are donated to the project will be used to purchase plants and material for the common areas within the Garden District (such as the median strip on Chapel Court) and for the purchase of signs and brochures to promote the project.
Meetings are held throughout the season at locations within the Garden District and at the central information office at the Icehouse Gallery in Mayfield. The Icehouse Gallery will also be used temporarily to house bulk deliveries of gardening material awaiting distribution to homeowners who are participating in the project.
