Impressions 2014, Mayfield/Graves County Art Guild’s annual juried show, is now on display at the Ice House Gallery, 120 North 8th Street in Mayfield, until December 20. Now in its 23rd year, Impressions is always highly anticipated, attracting talented artists and visitors from the four-state region. 61 artists submitted 125 entries to be considered for this year’s show. Only 74 pieces were selected for display by this year’s judge, Randy Simmons. The Best of Show award, sponsored by Mayor Teresa Cantrell and West Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative was presented to David O. Carrico of Paris, TN for his painting, Lemons and Pears. Jack Sergeant of Benton, KY, won First Place in Drawing for The Cannons of Shiloh, sponsored by Jack and Elaine Simmons. Second Place Drawing, sponsored by Mayberry Antiques, went to LaNelle Mason of Paducah for Wood’s Edge. David McBeth of Martin, TN placed first in Sculpture, for Bottle, sponsored by Mary Jackson-Haugen. Second Place Sculpture, sponsored by Mayfield Veterinary Clinic, was awarded to Kenneth Tyler of Mayfield for Camouflage. For First Place Fiber/Mixed Media, The John and Betty Cook Memorial Award, went to Diane Daubert of Murray for Meeting of the Monarchs. Second Place Fiber/Mixed Media, sponsored by Greer Neon went to Cat Hoffa of McEwen, TN for Creation. First Place in Photography, sponsored by Marketing Chicks, was awarded to Nancy Smith of Smithland, KY for Girl in a Box. Melodie Anderson of Benton, KY won Second Place in Photography for Bubblicious, sponsored by Snappy Tomato Pizza. Alexandra Stover of Sparta, TN won first place in painting for Rose, sponsored by Howard D. Happy Company. Second Place Painting, sponsored by Dal and Mary Helen Boyd, went to Oil Derrick Sunset by Jason Stout of Paris, TN. A drawing by Wes Cole of Hickory, Burley and Dark Fired Patch, was awarded the Laurel Oak Garden Club Award for Best Botanical Representation. An additional Merit Award went to Larry Simmons of Mayfield for his photograph, Life Around Death.
