ALL ABOUT GOURDS 2013
September 3 - October 5

Artistry has become the hallmark of the Mayfield/Graves County Art Guild’s annual All About Gourds exhibition; and the 2013 show, which is on display at the Ice House Gallery until October 5 continues the tradition.  Four theme categories challenged the artists to explore the functional and artistic possibilities of the humble gourd in competition for cash prizes and awards.
The 2013 FNB Bank $300 Best of Show award was presented to Frederick Merida of Farmington, KY for his sculpture, “Cat’s Cradle.”
Jill Nelson of Marengo, IL was awarded First Place prize in the Wonders of the West category for “Horse Tales” sponsored by James R. Cash Auction. Gibson’s Discount Pharmacy sponsored the Second Place award in that category which was given to Margie Jordan of Salem, OR for “Unique Creature.”
“Giant Bust Light” by Kenneth Tyler of Wingo, KY was awarded First Place in the Real and Imaginary category sponsored by PGraphics Outdoor Photography. Second Place in this category went to Johnny McDougal of Murray, KY for “Stringer of Gourd Trout” also sponsored by Gibson’s Discount Pharmacy.
“Mimbres Shaman Bowl” by Ken Kietzke of Murray, KY won First Place in the Visionary Vessels category, sponsored by HGDS/Gibson Rental. Adra Jones of Dongola, IL won Second in this category with “Butterflies” sponsored by HGDS/Gibson Rental
Mary Helen Boyd of Mayfield won First Place in the Miscellaneous category for her entry, “American Primitive” sponsored by Mayfield Printing. Second Place in this category went to Margie Jordan’s  “African Cape Mask.”
Three Merit Awards, were given to Dana Heath of Mayfield for “The Original Tinkergourd Construction Set” sponsored by Western Kentucky Insurance Agency, Frederick Merida of Farmington for “At A Turning Point” and Pinke Spencer of Hickman, KY for “Artist’s Vision of a Visionary Vessel.”
